Why Backsass Exists
Backsass was created for readers who are tired of being talked down to about world politics and global affairs. Much of what is presented as analysis today functions as public relations dressed up as insight, or outrage stripped of meaningful context. This project is grounded in respect for intelligence, an acknowledgment of complexity, and a commitment to seeing beyond carefully packaged narratives.
What Drives Our Work
Backsass is built around two core pillars: essays and commentary. The essays step away from daily noise to examine the deeper forces shaping events: power, history, economics, ideology, technology, and culture. They connect what is happening now to the patterns that led here, helping readers understand why developments matter and how they fit into a broader landscape.
How We Approach Commentary
