Our Purpose

Built for readers who prefer clarity over spin and depth over noise—writing that assumes intelligence and treats truth seriously.

Why Backsass Exists

Backsass was created for readers who are tired of being talked down to about world politics and global affairs. Much of what is presented as analysis today functions as public relations dressed up as insight, or outrage stripped of meaningful context. This project is grounded in respect for intelligence, an acknowledgment of complexity, and a commitment to seeing beyond carefully packaged narratives.

What Drives Our Work

Backsass is built around two core pillars: essays and commentary. The essays step away from daily noise to examine the deeper forces shaping events: power, history, economics, ideology, technology, and culture. They connect what is happening now to the patterns that led here, helping readers understand why developments matter and how they fit into a broader landscape.

How We Approach Commentary

Commentary responds to unfolding events and media framing with skepticism and proportion. It examines how narratives are constructed, what is emphasized or omitted, and how political theater distorts understanding. The aim is illumination rather than reaction, and judgment rather than performance.

Diasagreement without spectacle.

Agreement is not the expectation here. Assumptions, including our own, are examined rather than reinforced, and world affairs are treated with seriousness rather than dilution or comfort.

Keeping Real Lives at the Center

Global politics is never abstract. Decisions made at the highest levels shape daily life, redistribute power, and determine who bears the cost. Backsass remains focused on consequence. Who benefits, who loses, and what is quietly removed from view.
